One of the best home flag projects I have ever seen:

"Once I had your Bull Moose flag bracket kit, the hardest part was trying to find an 8x8x8 wooden post. You can’t get them at Lowes or Home Depot. They only sell 6x6 inch (5.5x5.5 inch actual) which is too small for your bracket. But I finally found a sawmill nearby that cut me an 8x8 inch post made of pressure treated southern yellow pine (PT SYP). Once I got the post home, I cut the 8 foot post down to 7.5 feet in length, so that I’d have a full 2.5 feet underground and 5 feet above.

Then I dug a 2.5 ft deep hole, 2 feet in diameter. After that I took out an additional 3 inches in depth and added a foundation of pea gravel. Once I had the post vertically alligned & plumbed, I added several more inches of pea gravel around the bottom of the post before setting the post with eight 50-lb bags of concrete. Probably a little overkill, but it sure is not going anywhere! It is massively sturdy, and that is exactly what I wanted."

I used 5/16x3.5 inch stainless steel lag screws from Home Depot to mount the Bull Moose bracket, and three nylon shoulder washers from Ace Hardware to make sure I don’t get any galvanic-induced corrosion from steel on aluminum over time.

Once I had everything mounted, I took the bracket off and stained the entire post (and wooden cap too). Then I used exterior caulking to affix the cap to the post.

Lastly, I spliced the brass snaphooks to the 1/4 inch double braided halyard for a clean look. I am in the Merchant Marine, and that’s how we splice halyards aboard ship. Your halyard and snaphooks worked perfectly.

I am really happy with how it all turned out! I had first thought about a 20 ft flagpole, but that was more than I wanted. I prefer the 30 degree angled display of your bracket, but there was no good way to mount it to our house. Plus I wanted the flag to have its very own post, and placed so that the flag would never chaff against our house or a tree branch...no matter which way the wind blew!
