Pole Top Adapters

A pole top adapter is perfect for anyone doing the classic light-pole-to-flagpole conversion. Aluminum light poles can be a great find. Many times you can get one for free or for very little money.

The challenge?
Most light poles have a top diameter that’s too large for a standard cap-style truck, and they’re not threaded to accept a threaded truck either.

That’s where a pole top adapter comes in. It provides a simple, reliable solution for turning an old light pole into a functional flagpole. Compared to the cost of a new flagpole, light poles are a great deal, and the small investment in the right parts is well worth it.

How to Convert a Light Pole to a Flagpole

1. Measure the outside diameter at the top of your light pole

2. Choose an adapter that fits over that diameter

3. Select the matching truck for the adapter

Installation Hint

For an extra rock-solid installation, consider replacing the standard set screws in your pole top adapter or cap-style truck with bolts.

This simple upgrade adds extra strength and security to your flagpole setup.

For Added Security:

1. Drill holes through the top wall of your pole so they line up with the set screw holes in your adapter or truck.

2. Use a tap wrench and tap (available at most hardware stores) to cut threads in those holes to match the thread size of the set screws.
   Tip: Bring one of your set screws to the hardware store so they can match the correct bolt size for you.

3. Replace the set screws with bolts that pass through the pole wall for a stronger, more secure attachment.
