3' x 5' American Samoa Flag

The flag of American Samoa was adopted in 1960, one year after the territory's first constitution came into effect. Its design stands apart from other US territorial flags: a navy blue field with a white triangle at the hoist, outlined in red, containing an American bald eagle grasping a fue (a Samoan fly whisk, representing wisdom) and an uatogi (a war club, representing strength). The symbols reflect the bond between the American government and the Samoan people, and the territory's bicultural identity shared between Samoan and American traditions.
